Making Copies: Process and Obsession

Reynolda House Museum of American Art, Spring 2017

Reynolda House Benefactors were invited to spend an evening with staff members and their personal artwork that centered around the idea of copying or pastiche.

Inspired by the large scale painting by Samuel Morse in the exhibition Samuel F. B. Morse’s “Gallery of the Louvre” and the Art of Invention (“Gallery of the Louvre,” 1831–1833) which features American visitors copying artwork in the French museum, this postcard invitation features Morse’s own imitation of the iconic “Mona Lisa,” collaged alongside the original.
